Scintigraphy of the shoulder

Bone scintigraphy: you can see a hot spot within the shoulder ( blach area ). This is due to an arthritis of the shoulder
Occassionally a scinitigraphy of the shoulder is necessary for further diagnostics. A radiologist / specialist for nuclear imaging will prduce these pictures. There are different kinds of scintigraphy. Most of the time, at the shoulder, a bone scintigramm is used, which is demonstrating changes of blood circulation and / or metabolism. Pictures are made at different times, between the distance of several hours, while the marker is in the soft tissue or later in the bone.
Low grade radioctive substances are used as a marker. These markers accumulate at areas of higher circulation or at regions with an increased metabolism. They can give useful hints about local tumors, inflammation or loosening of shoulder prostheses.
